10 day tour of Tanzania:
Route: Dar es Salaam – Mtemere – Selous Game Reserve – Zanzibar
Day 1 – Dar es Salaam to Mtemere
Today you will arrive on the African continent. Upon arrival at Dar es Salaam International Airport, proceed to the domestic terminal for the flight to Mtemere airstrip by the Selous Game Reserve. There you will be picked up and taken to the Selous Wilderness Camp, your home for the next three nights (full-board accommodation included). The property consists of 7 spacious and comfortable permanent tents with outdoor shower. The camp is located directly on the Rufiji River.
Day 2 to 4 – Selous Game Reserve: activities of choice
During your stay in the Selous Wilderness Camp you can do two activities of your choice per day. This could be for example a boat safari, a walking safari or a game drive. The numbers of animals in Selous are unknown, ideal for an adventurous safari. More than half of all Tanzanian elephants live in the Selous Game Reserve. The buffalo population is also very large. The reserve also includes leopards, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, moose and hartebeest. The endangered wild dog is regularly spotted.
You can do a walking safari with a guide. View the animals and plants at close range and see if you can find out which excrement and which footprint belongs to which animal.
The boat safari on the Rufiji River takes place between the hippos, crocodiles and birds. On the banks you will see wildlife that come to quench their thirst. This is a great way to see their natural behaviour.
You can go on a game drive with the other guests of the camp.
Day 5 – Zanzibar Stone Town
In the morning you’ll be taken to Mtemere airstrip for the flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival in Zanzibar you will be picked up by a driver who will take you to the property in Stone Town. For a moment you will be surrounded by the scents, colours and sounds of this unique city.
Day 6 – Zanzibar Stone Town
Today you have another day in this city. Wander the streets, visit the slave memorial or do the famous spice tour. You can also do some shopping or find a seafront terrace to watch the locals on the beach. Look for an elevated terrace overlooking the sea for a so-called sundowner. In the evening the central market is nice to visit to get acquainted with the locals.
Day 7 – Zanzibar Fumba
In the morning you’ll be taken to the beach of Fumba about 30 minutes from Stone Town. This is south west of Stone Town. The next three nights you will stay in a lodge on the beach. The lodge’s facilities include a pool and a spa. From the lodge you can do various activities.
Day 8 & 9 – Zanzibar Fumba
These last few days you can enjoy the white beaches of Fumba. Take a dip in the blue sea or in the pool. You will encounter some monkeys during your stay there as well as bush babies (a kind of cat-monkey). The animals are really timid and disappear at every sound.
Day 10 -Last day– Departure from Zanzibar / Return home
Your journey through Tanzania comes to an end today. A transfer will be organized from your hotel to the airport where you will board your flight home.
