On the way to Ladakh
Srinagar – Houseboat Ambassador
Spending a night in a houseboat is “the thing to do” in Srinagar. The all-wooden Houseboat Ambassador is beautifully decorated in traditional Ladakhi style, with spacious and very clean rooms. The owner and his wife and sons will do everything to make you feel at home and give you tips about things to see and do in Srinagar. The food is excellent!
Manali – Mayflower Hotel
The Mayflower Hotel is a cozy, family-run hotel. It is built in the traditional style of the houses of Kullu, with natural stones and lots of heavy woodwork. The hotel is located in a green area, at walking distance from the center of Manali. The rooms are large and beautiful, with polished wooden floors and rugs around the bed and sitting area. You can enjoy great food in the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Shimla – Hotel Ashiyana Regency
The hotel is located in a quiet location high on a hill, but near the center of Shimla. The comfortable rooms offer stunning views of the Himalaya hills covered with pine forests. The restaurant serves international food.
Sarahan – The Shrikand
The hotel is placed strategically, close to the famous Bhima Kali temple and overlooking the mountains and valley. The rooms are spacious, and most have a beautiful view on the surroundings. The manager and staff are very helpful and courteous. The restaurant serves freshly prepared and hygienic food. The hotel has a bar with a great outdoor sitting area from where you can see the snowcapped mountains.
Leh – Padma Hotel
A cozy hotel at a stunning location. Its most is no doubt the roof-top restaurant that serves delicious food, as well as a sweeping view of the Indus Valley and the glacier-clad Zanskar mountains behind it. The rooms are cozy and clean. The manager is particularly helpful in arranging excursions and the staff go a great length for you to ensure that you have a great stay with them.
Shyok – Shyok River Lodge
Shyok River Lodge is a hidden place where two majestic mountain ranges meet: the Himalayas and the Karakoram. The lodge is set in a true oasis, surrounded by green fields, bushes of willows, poplars, wild roses and tamarisk. Though part of a traditional Ladakhi house, the rooms and western bathrooms are very comfortable and clean. The lodge is located in a serene setting with the ubiquitous calming noise of mountain streams. Located in a small Ladakhi village, it offers an authentic experience in a comfortable environment. It is ideal for families, couples, and individual travelers alike, and for nature lovers, birdwatchers and anyone who likes to go hiking or horse riding. You are also invited to participate in the ploughing, sowing and harvesting of the barley or to accompany the villagers as the yaks are brought to the high meadows in spring.
Sumur – Nubra Eco Lodge
Nubra ecolodge is a ecofriendly hotel where you stay in spacious luxury tents with attached bathrooms. It is located near the Sumur sand dunes in the Nubra Valley, near the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra river. In the surroundings you find seabuckthorn, wild flowers and desert wildlife. The hotel is surrounded by an 11 acre farm, planted with poplar, willow, apricot and apple trees, and vegetables. From the hotel you have amazing views of the Karakoram mountains, the sand dunes and the Nubra river. It is an ideal location to go for walks along the Sumur sand dunes and the Nubra river.
Nurla – The Apricot Tree Hotel
The Apricot Tree Resort lies on a unique location along the Indus River. This small-scale boutique hotel has a large garden and is surrounded by apricot and apple trees. The hotel is traditionally built and has a varied restaurant and comfortable rooms. Tip: Dine in traditional-style Ladakhi for an authentic dining experience.
