During this 13-day tour through Chile you will discover the endless nature of this fascinating country and get acquainted with the traditions and customs of the Chileans. You will start your journey in Santiago de Chile. You’ll then travel to the north and visit San Pedro in the Atacama desert with its stunning nature full of highland lakes, salt plains, geysers, volcanoes and flamingos. You will also visit the south of Chile with its vast empty plains, impressive skies, mountains, fjords and lakes and the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park. You will also discover the central valley with its wine culture.

Route: Santiago de Chile – San Pedro de Atacama – Punta Arenas – Torres del Paine – Puerto Natales – Punta Arenas – Santiago de Chile
Day 1 – Arrival in Santiago de Chile
Your trip starts in Santiago de Chile. At the airport, you will meet your local travel expert who will bring you to your hotel. Santiago is situated at an altitude of 500 metres and is surrounded by high mountains. Today you can discover the city on your own. You will spend the night in a comfortable hotel close to the city center.
Day 2 – Santiago de Chile: City tour and visit to an organic wine house
Today you will discover Santiago through a guided walking tour. You will climb the Santa Lucia hill for a scenic view of the surrounding mountains, and visit some special churches, the Moneda presidential palace, the main square and the central market. Around lunch time you can stop by the central market to try some delicious seafood and enjoy a pisco sour. In the afternoon you will visit an organic winery in the Maipo Valley with the opportunity to taste some organic wines. In the evening you can visit the cozy Bellavista district with its many restaurants, bars and live music on weekend nights.
Day 3 – Santiago de Chile to San Pedro de Atacama
Your flight to Calama will take 2 hours. Here you will pick up your rental car and drive in about 2 hours through a beautiful landscape to San Pedro de Atacama, a small town, situated in the heart of the Atacama desert. San Pedro breathes a traditional and comfortable atmosphere with its colourful houses and unpaved streets. You will spend the night in a nice hotel in a quiet part of the centre.
Day 4 and 5 – San Pedro de Atacama free days
You can spend the next two days exploring the area at your own pace. San Pedro de Atacama offers a great variety of interesting tours and excursions that allow you to enjoy the beautiful, unspoilt nature. You can visit a geyser at sunrise, see the highland lakes in different colours, look for flamingos and stop by the salt lakes where you can float yourself in the water. There are also various possibilities to climb volcanoes. A tour to one of San Pedro’s planetariums is another unforgettable experience.
Day 6 – San Pedro de Atacama to Punta Arenas
You will travel back to Calama and fly through Santiago de Chile to Punta Arenas in the far-most south of Chile. Punta Arenas is located on the Magellan Strait. It has a number of beautiful merchandise houses from the time the Magellan Strait was an important East-West route. Feel the Patagonian wind while taking a stroll along the waterfront. The cemetery of Punta Arenas with its huge graves and its funny trimmed trees is worth a visit as well. You will spend the night in a pleasant hotel in the city centre.
Day 7 – Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine
Today you will travel through beautiful open steppe landscape in about a 3-hour drive to Puerto Natales, located on the fjord with the unique name “The Last Hope”. Here you can do some grocery shopping for the next few days through the park. Puerto Natales is also a good place to have lunch. A further 2-hour drive with stunning views will take you to the entrance of the national park Torres del Paine. The asphalt roads turn into dirt roads as you approach the beautiful Torres del Paine. You will spend the night in a nice hotel at the borders of the national park.
Day 8 and 9 – Torres del Paine: Hike or discover the park by car
Today and tomorrow you can choose to put on your walking shoes and discover the park in beautiful day-hikes or cover more distance and explore the park by car. Both are good ways to explore the park and enjoy its incredible beauty. You can take a hike to the Paine Towers or cross Lake Pehoe by catamaran and walk to the Grey Glacier viewpoint or explore the French Valley. Or you can take your car to another side of the Grey Glacier for a different viewpoint and take a boat ride to the glacier. The first night you will sleep in the same hotel at the borders of the national park. The second night you will spend in a real estancia, or a large rural estate.
Day 10 – Torres del Paine to Puerto Natales
Today you have time to spend at the estancia. You can try a lamb barbecue for lunch and discover something of the estancia life. At the end of the day you will drive back to Puerto Natales where you will spend the night in a nice hotel.
Day 11 – Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas
You will have some time to explore Puerto Natales. In the fjord you will find white swans with black necks. Then you will continue to Punta Arenas. Here you have the afternoon to explore the city. You can visit a penguin colony on the island of Magdalena in the Magellan Strait. It will take about 2 hours to reach the island and on the way you might see albatrosses, sterns and dolphins. In season, more than 55,000 Magellan penguin couples breed on the island. The penguin population rapidly grows as soon as the chicks are born. You have about an hour on the island where you can walk among the penguins.
Day 12 – Punta Arenas to Santiago de Chile
Today you will fly back to Santiago de Chile. You will stay in the same hotel in Providencia.
Day 13 – Departure from Santiago de Chile – end trip
After breakfast you have some more free time to explore the city. You can end your tour here, choose to extend it or continue your travels on your own.
